Croatia feels like a totally different world. It makes you feel like you've traveled back in time thousands of years ago!
Split:
Once we arrived in Split, we stayed at the hostel Backpackers Fairytale. This hostel was located at Istarska 3, Split, Croatia. We stayed here for 3 days and payed $89.28 each (they only accepted cash). This hostel was kind of hard to find and went up what felt like a million flights of stairs! The inside was really fun and a lot of young people were staying there. The owner gave us a map and circled all the fun things to do which helped us out a lot! They also did your laundry for you for really cheap! You can also book tours with them to Krka National Park (please note that you are NOT allowed to swim in here anymore; our friends found this out the hard way), 5 island Tour & Blue Lagoon (lunch included).
In Split, we went to the Grgur Ninski Statue. It's supposed to be good luck to rub it big, gold toe!! From there we went to Diocletian's Palace & Cellars. This has been standing since the end of the 3rd century AD! It's one of the best preserved monuments of the Roman architecture in the world. Right within it are the cellars. You may recognize these cellars from the hit show Game of Thrones- where Daenerys’s locked up and trained her dragons. From there, I climbed the top of the Saint Domnius Cathedral. The view was pretty cool at the top and if you have a student ID you can get a discount (same with Diocletian's Cellars).
You can do this all in one day - it's very close together and not a lot of walking.
Later that night, Kenzie & I went out with a group of girls around Split (S/O to Nikolina, Sara & Michaela). We went to Sanctuary Cantina (where Nikolina & I were obsessed with the drink called "Blue Hurricane" that made our tongues blue). We then ended the night at Fabrique Pub where we all took a shot and then turned around where the whole bar was cheering for us. It was one of the wildest experiences. And of course we got yummy street food on the way back to our Hostel. We stopped on some steps to eat and watched these random boys race down the street. It was entertaining to say the least.
Places around Split that we ate: Toro Grill Bar, Šug Restaurant, Veg Plant Based Meals & Hajduk Ice Cream. I will review and say the ice cream place was my favorite! There were also walkable places to visit in Split. I went to Križ na Marjanu Lookout Point. It overlooks all of Split and was a good workout! The hike wasn't that long; it was just very steep. You can also walk to a couple beaches. We chose to go to Bacvice Beach. It was mostly shallow, but could get deep. This is where I went cliff jumping! The water is also crystal clear. You can see the bottom very far out. This was one of my cooler experiences.
Day Trips from Split:
I would recommend to do this if you had access to a car. A friend of mine had rented one so we went to Solin and Klis. They were pretty close together. It was cool to see the Salona Roman Ruins. These ruins were built before Diocletian's Palace! They are 1700 years old. From there we drove to the city Trogir. Trogir was unique and remarkable itself. This preserved old town looks like it's from the Renaissance.
